Especially in an open world game that is supposed to be giving me this illusion of freedom. It's infuriating and laughable how many times it happens. There are all these gimmicks where the antagonists are constantly capturing you which is completely out of your control so they can monologue to you. I know the Far Cry games have always done this but its still stupid. Why are you locking me out of this stuff? Whatever. This is not some great single player game that I need to play to experience the story. Certain achievements you can't get in co-op. Then there is just dumb weird co-op design choices where there are certain perks you can't get in co-op.

A lot of this stuff was especially noticeable because I just got through playing Dying Light 1 with the same friend in co-op and that was a much smoother experience with no tether at all in an open world game from 2015. There is a tether that while it is decent enough size still warps players to each other. The world is super chuggish in co-op with lots of weird pop up. Lots of issues where vehicles would suddenly become invisible in scripted driving missions that would force us to need to restart the game. And I hated the story in this one to boot.įirst off I played it co-op and it was buggy as all get out. This game doesn't feel significantly different in memory to what I was doing in Far Cry 3 or Far Cry 4 but god I hate doing it now in 2022 with so little sense of evolution. Time has not been kind to the Far Cry formula imo. So I basically hadn't played a Far Cry game since 2014.įar Cry 5 was added to gamepass recently so decided to play it co-op with a friend and man I hated this game. Played 4 when it came out via rental but bounced off it fairly early not because of any specific gameplay reasons but because it seemed very similar to 3 in my mind at that time. Liked both of them in varying degrees because at least story wise, it felt those games were doing different things than the typical Far Cry game. The polish applied to the formula in 2 really seemed to hit the sweet spot at the time in that one. Played 3 when it originally came out and was kind of blown away by it at the time.
